2017 LCM Hawaiian State Championships - 32 ASC Records
July 17, 2017
ASC Swim Fans,
The 19 swimmers at States Champs experienced tremendous success. As a team the level of competitiveness is increasing, as documented by the setting of 32 club records by 11 swimmers. The longest standing record to be broken was set in 1993 by one of the first ASC members, Eric Bollinger. ASC earned a 8th place overall amongst the 26 teams competing. Jakob Honda made it to the top of the podium 4 times and was runner-up twice. His effort certainly goes down as one of the finest by any single ASC swimmer in the 24 year history of our club.

The parent’s in attendance were fantastic with their support. In fact, their help at the meet was a record as well due to the fact that with the size of our team, more was expected of our club. Thank you, parents, for the great B-B-Q that was put together by Coach Sarie, hosted by the Robertson’s and help from Kim Honda as well. A special shout-out to Dean Honda for officiating four long, hot sessions as a stroke and turn judge. Susan Griley was our meet marshall representative, and our timers, Kristi Cotton, Allan Yamashita, Malia Honda, Arlene Schnitzler, Leesa Robertson, Melanie Aiona, Michelle Sorensen, Noriko Ostrem, and Coach Sarie.
From a coaching perspective, watching the swimmers was a dream. We were able to witness relentless pursuit of improving and wow, was it entertaining. It was great to see all the hard work in the practices come to life for them in the event. Delayed gratification is a component to success in life and swimming certainly offers its share of opportunities. Stone Cutters - all of ‘em. Thank you, swimmers, for all of the hard work in the practice and then focusing during the meet. Many of the swimmers have already asked me when we will begin again and that was again, very encouraging as a coach.
The four days was time well spent - thank you everyone! By the end, we were all ready for a day or two of rest.
Best wishes for great swims to the nine Junior Age Group Championship swimmers (AJ, Lia, Kyla, Mahina, Zoe, Sophia J., River, Beaudin and Kosuke) heading to the Jr. Age Group Championships this weekend on Oahu with Coach Barb. GO ASC!!!!!
