ASC This Week - October 17-23, 2021 (TEAM PHOTOS THIS WEEK)

Mark Noetzel

Swim Families,

Here are some things that you should know about.

WEDNESDAY - OCTOBER 20th -TEAM PHOTOS (BY GROUPS)

  • TEAM SHIRTS NEED TO BE WORN, PLEASE. We appreciate everyone coming that day so that all swimmers are able to be in their group photo.  We are only doing small photos  by group, not an entire team, due to proper spacing between everyone. The photos will be shared out so that you can have access to them.

  • 5 pm - GOLD

  • 5:10 - SENIOR

  • 5:20 - BRONZE

  • 5:30 - SILVER

Swimmer Drop-Off & Parking

  • I strongly encourage all parents to use caution when entering the parking lot, and if possible, when dropping prior to 5:30 pm, to only use the lot to drop off, and then park out in grass lot near the track.

  • HPA will continue to increase the amount of activities, including the start of BIIF events in the gym and fields. Please

  • For Bronze Group families, I really encourage you to use the area on M & W since your swimmers are in the pool while many varsity sports are practicing. Consider dropping your swimmer off at the normal parking lot, then going to park in the extra lot.

Practices

  • Here’s the link to the updated normal PRACTICE TIMES schedule.

  • ADJUSTMENTS FOR THE WEEK - DUE TO THE  HPA HOME CROSS COUNTRY EVENT ON SATURDAY, OCT 23, 2021.

    • Senior Group (7:30-8:30)

    • Silver Group - NO PRACTICE

BIS Pentathlon Meet Saturday, October 30, 2021

With our peer teams in Hilo and Kona back to practicing in the county pools this past week, we have scheduled the Pentathlon Meet for Saturday, October 30, 2021. It’s a fun meet where everyone swims each stroke and an IM. Total time from all races determines the ranking by age.

This meet is available to:

  • Bronze - with coach permission (need start certification, stroke…)

  • Silver

  • Gold

  • Senior

Please see the team page for the event to declare Yes or No for your swimmer. Also, note the opportunity for a parent to be on deck by volunteering with a job. Please commit to the job sign-up form.

SENIOR GROUP CORE VALUES - DISCUSSION

On Friday, Oct 15, 2021, The Sr. Group spent a little over an hour discussing group culture, norms and values. Beaudin, Minnow, Florian, Sofia H., Nereo, Sean, Olivia, Coleson, and Hamilton, all played a part in contributing to the discussion and adding ideas. Future discussions will be had and shared with all coaches. Athletes shared the following things that they appreciate and that their group should strive for, in order expressed, but not necessarily by priority,  to build character.

  • Independence - Athletes able to work independently - get their work done.

  • Teamwork - able to work together.

  • Communication - encourage each other

    • Able to connect with others

    • To have events away from the pool.

  • Lack of egotism - be humble

  • Pursuit excellence

  • Bravery and Courage

  • Be consistent.

  • Be dedicated.

  • Be resilient

  • Be honest/have integrity

  • Be trusting

  • Be tranquil and calm

  • FUN!

No-Cell Phone Policy

  • Parents, thank you for your continued support of our swimmers, but in order to best create a team culture, the coaching staff is asking that swimmers do not use their cell phones on deck, important calls to/from parents are allowed. We would like swimmers to talk to each other, versus looking at their devices.

  •  It is asked that if a swimmer is expecting an important call right before the start of practice, that they alert their coach to the need to take a call. Calls can also be made or taken outside of the pool area. Per USA SWIMMING RULES, cell phones are not allowed in bathrooms or locker rooms.

  • Coaches continue to use their cell phones for work-related (attendance on the OnDeck app, looking up parent phone numbers, looking up swimmer’s best times…).

USA - Swimming/US Center For Safe Sport

Many families have continued to have their swimmers take the SafeSport course, as well as taking it themselves. The coaching staff thanks you for doing this. Here’s the link to the USA Swimming SafeSport/US Center for Safe Sport.  Keeping our athletes safe is the responsibility of all of us.

All for now,

Coach Mark
