Congratulations to the 60 swimmers who competed on Saturday!

It was very exciting to see everyone support each other and work towards their individual goals. Many swimmers made PR’s (Personal Records) in their events.  Achieving new time standards is one measure of success, and ASC swimmers accumulated 67 new time standards at the meet.  One new team record was set, which is especially exciting!

FULL RESULTS of the Meet -11/13/21

The next meet is scheduled for Saturday, December 18 and the following one will be at the end of January! We hope to see even more time standards achieved.  States are tentatively set for the Big Island at the end of February, so we will be planning for individual events and RELAY SWIMMERS!

Want to be on deck in the future to watch meets? Become an official. It’s not hard, you will get really great training and be able to shadow officials until you’re ready to go  ASC needs to add 4 or 5 Stroke & Turn Officials to our roster! Please talk to Coach Mark or Barbara re: the option of becoming a deck official.

HAWAIIAN SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS - November 19,20, 21, 2021, VMAC Pool OAHU.

Congratulations to Kouske Soler, Sofia Howard, Nereo Loreto, and Coleson Pouoa for qualifying for the HAWAIIAN SWIMMING SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS this week at the VMAC pool on Oahu. Kouske and Nereo have committed as of this writing to attend. Here are the qualification standards for the meet.

Swimmer Drop-Off & Parking

  • HOME HPA VOLLEYBALL GAME - MONDAY NOV 22 - PLEASE READ BELOW.

  • I strongly encourage all parents to use caution when entering the parking lot, and if possible, when dropping prior to 5:30 pm, to only use the lot to drop off, and then park out in the grass lot near the track.

  • HPA will continue to increase the number of activities, including the start of BIIF events in the gym and fields. Please

  • For Bronze Group families, I really encourage you to use the area on M & W since your swimmers are in the pool while many varsity sports are practicing. Consider dropping your swimmer off at the normal parking lot, then going to park in the extra lot.

Practices this week

  • Normal - Except - NO SATURDAY sessions for Silver, Gold, and Senior (BIIF Cross Country Championships at HPA).

SENIOR GROUP CORE VALUES - DISCUSSION

On Friday, Oct 15, 2021, The Sr. Group spent a little over an hour discussing group culture, norms and values. Beaudin, Minnow, Florian, Sofia H.,Nereo, Sean, Olivia, Coleson, and Hamilton, all played a part in contributing to the discussion and adding ideas. Future discussions will be had and shared with all coaches. Athletes shared the following things that they appreciate and that their group should strive for, in order expressed, but not necessarily by priority,  to build character.

  • Independence - Athletes able to work independently - get their work done.

  • Teamwork - able to work together.

  • Communication - encourage each other

    • Able to connect with others

    • To have events away from the pool.

  • Lack of egotism - be humble

  • Pursuit excellence

  • Bravery and Courage

  • Be consistent.

  • Be dedicated.

  • Be resilient

  • Be honest/have integrity

  • Be trusting

  • Be tranquil and calm

  • FUN!

No-Cell Phone Policy

  • Parents, thank you for your continued support of our swimmers, but in order to best create a team culture, the coaching staff is asking that swimmers do not use their cell phones on deck, important calls to/from parents are allowed. We would like swimmers to talk to each other, versus looking at their devices.

  •  It is asked that if a swimmer is expecting an important call right before the start of practice, that they alert their coach to the need to take a call. Calls can also be made or taken outside of the pool area. Per USA SWIMMING RULES, cell phones are not allowed in bathrooms or locker rooms.

  • Coaches continue to use their cell phones for work-related (attendance on the OnDeck app, looking up parent phone numbers, looking up swimmer’s best times…).

USA - Swimming/US Center For Safe Sport

Many families have continued to have their swimmers take the SafeSport course, as well as taking it themselves. The coaching staff thanks you for doing this. Here’s the link to the USA Swimming SafeSport/US Center for Safe Sport.  Keeping our athletes safe is the responsibility of all of us.

All for now,

Coach Mark
