ASC - MAMIZUKA and THIS WEEK
The Manoa Aquatics - 40th Annual Harry Mamizuka Invitational was this past weekend and I was glad ASC was able to attend. I was a young coach of 23 years old when I first met Coach Mamizuka at the Manoa Invit in April of 1986. Fresh out of college,I had recently taken the head coaching position at Punahou Aquatics and was not well known in Hawaii. Coach Mamizuka made a point to invite me to have lunch with him and all the other coaches on the island at the meet, welcoming me to Hawaiian Swimming. It was a kind gesture that I’ve never forgotten.
Many thanks to the Pouoa, Chicoine, Peck, Duba, Tuifua, and families for supporting the team this past weekend. A “special thanks” to Tara and Maki for fulfilling the team’s timing requirements.
This sort of meet is great for swimmers who can attend because of the number of races in which they are able to compete. For some, it provided six races a day and a time to repeat some races while the memory of the last swim was still on their mind.
The swimmers (Braeden, Hani, Coleson, Tiffany, Pemma, Olivia, Hulton, Kouske, Lucas, Nereo) did well and achieved new personal best performances, as well as new time standards, including Some for the AAA State Swimming Championships in July. Lucas Duba led the team in medals (and in points, 20) with several top-eight performances. Coleson led with the highest individual finish with a third in the 13-14 boys 100yd Breaststroke. The boys Open 200 Medley Relay (Hulton, Coleson, Kousuke, and Lucas) had a team-best second place. The Open 200 Freestyle Relay (Kousuke, Nereo, Hulton, and Lucas) was third.
Here are the complete RESULTS.
