Dear Swim Families,

What’s happening this summer? With ASC, it depends on which plan you registered for back in March.

  • PLAN A - For those of you who signed up for Plan A, it ends this weekend, June, 4. If your swimmer is in Plan A and is swimming in the meet this weekend, please have them come to practice on Monday to receive any ribbons.

  • PLAN B -  If you signed up for Plan B, that session continues through July 2. State (AAA) swimmers will continue through the meet (July 14-17, VMAC Oahu).

ASC HOME MEET -  May 28, 2022

What a great day - Here’s the summary from Coach Barbara.

Thank you to all of the parent volunteers; we need you to run the meet and hope that you enjoyed your front-row seat. A special thank you to those who set up Friday evening and Saturday morning and those swimmers & parents that helped with the incredibly quick clean-up after the meet!

It was pretty amazing to be "like the old days" and run a meet with 160 swimmers - lots of events and 2 relays!!

ASC had 4 First Time Competitors, welcome to the Team!

  • Willa Breakell and Lucile Breakell, Satya Green & Zoe McKenna

There were many swimmers who had BEST TIMES -  CONGRATULATIONS!.... And many moved up the Hawaiian Swimming Time Standards Chart. Achieving a new time standard is another form of measuring progress, and ASC swimmers continue to improve their standing and potentially qualify for another level of competition, on Oahu or the mainland.

  • Sofia, also a ten-year member of ASC is heading to Auburn University and has been awarded a four-year Presidential Scholarship for merit, the highest they offer.

TIME STANDARDS

A note about time standards - As swimmers beginning in the program start to compete, their results (time) fit into a scale (see below and for exact times, see the link)  HAWAIIAN SWIMMING TIME STANDARDS.

For new swimmers to achieve a “B” standard is great and is their first level of recognized achievement in the Hawaiian Swimming system. Please note, that ASC coaches push athletes to simply strive to improve their personal bests, and the rest will take care of itself.  ASC has had athletes on the chart below, all the way to the Jr. National (18/under) Championships.

The more swimmers compete, the more opportunities they have to learn “how to compete.” So, as parents, keep encouraging and listening to your swimmer(s). No need for you to give any technical advice to them, that’s for the coaches. Just keep encouraging them to do their best and work hard to strive to achieve their goal. Often, the best thing you can say to a swimmer, is that you’re proud of them for trying and you enjoy watching them compete and exercise.

All for now,

Lastly, the coaching staff truly appreciates the opportunity to work with your swimmers.
